Stacking Beds in Cedar

The client came to me with a vision. Two single beds for a spare room, stacked on top of each other for storage and needing to be light enough to allow one to be lifted down to create two separate beds.

I came up with a design that included mortice and tenons on the bed posts, to allow one bed to slot on top of the other. Full joinery throughout, including recessed in the side rails for the bed slats to sit in. Tall enough for underbed storage but low enough for them to both be useful.

Made from cedar so they are nice and light. This joinery really does show off the variety of grain in this wood.
